In her second album, Brotabrot, Icelandic artist Inki blends original music and interviews with former prisoners into a danceable, hip-hop-inspired composition that asks aggressive questions about the relationship between imprisonment and entertainment.

The prison guard, the people work there, sometimes they cross the line. Like the guy that worked there for so many years, and when I talked to him, he used to grab my breasts, my ass.

And I was very silent, I didn’t know what to do. Because I am in the system, nobody believed in me.

So I feel like I was sexually abused somehow, by the prison guard. I was trying to behave so I could go out so I allowed this behavior to continue around me.

Það er svo skrítið að allar þessar konur sem ég man eftir og ég þekkti þarna, því það voru ekkert svo margar konur, að þær eru allar dánar.

Þetta var rosalega leiðinlegur staður. Svo eyddi maður kannski örugglega einum og hálfum tíma á þessu hlaupabretti sem var þarna niðri, sem var náttúrulega ónýtt. Svo var einhver dýna á gólfinu og eitthvað ónýtt lóð og eitthvað, þetta var alveg hræðilegt sko. Og maður eyddi auðvitað eins löngum tíma og maður gat þar líka. En þetta var alveg mjög leiðinlegur staður, sko. Út af því líka, út af því að það var svo lítið við að vera einhvernveginn. Þegar maður er annars staðar og maður hefur nóg að gera einhvern veginn, betri aðstæður og meira svona rými, þá er miklu þægilegra að vera lokaður inni.
